Karine Dilanyan – The Gift of Melancholia: Marsilio Ficino, Albreht Durer, Richard Burton

This lecture will cover astrological roots of melancholia and their reflection in the works of famous melancholic authors: Marsilio Ficino, the great Renaissance philosopher, in his "Three Books on Life"; Albreht Durer, the great artist, mathematician and geometer, in his ingraving "Melencolia I"; Richard Burton, the great thinker, in "The Anatomy of Melancholy." We will examine and decode astrological symbolism of the said works and influence of these outstanding people who tried to overcome predestination of their horoscopes and their works on art, science, philosophy, medicine and psychology from their times till our days.
