It was Robert Zoller, who introduced this forgotten predictive technique to astrologers in the 80-90s of the twentieth century and incorporated it into contemporary astrological practice. Twenty-five years later Robert Hand declared: “we have not fully digested traditional astrologies – to use the proper term – we have not mastered the techniques.”
The entire system of fardars was described by Abu-Mashar (787-886), starting from the grandiose metahistoric cycles of Jupiter-Saturn conjunctions up to the technique of a small fardar, which could be applied to human life. Although in his “Great Introduction to Astrology” Abu-Mashar explained the technical side of the small fardar, he did not give the key to applying this technique, saying that he would do it in some other book.
In this lecture, we decipher the meaning and place of this technique within the philosophy and cosmology of Islam, Zoroastrianism and Hinduism, its integration into the esoteric religious and philosophical doctrines. We will consider the concept of the descent and ascent of the soul through planetary spheres, as well as the central practice of “purifying nature” and creating the spiritual destiny of man in Sufism, and its connection with the passage of fardars during lifetime. Among the main sources of the study are the Sufi encyclopedia of the 10th century “Epistles of the Brethren of Purity”, the work of Al-Kindi (801-873) “On the Stellar Rays” and the concept of visionary imagination of Avicenna (980-1037).
